Jiangsu Gian MIM Parts

FAQs

  • How is MIM products’ density and strength?

Theoretically, typical MIM density is above 98%. Specific density characteristics depends on the choice of materials, but MIM density is close to precise material.

  • In the process of removing binder, will those parts shrink?

No, the volume of parts will not change in the process of debinding, but parts will shrink 20% during sintering.

  • Is there any difference between MIM and normal powder metallurgy?

Traditional PM presses rough powder into a fixed position by one-way high pressure, creating moderately complex equipment. Particularly, if we do nothing to improve its density in the process of sintering, density value between 80-90%, it will limit its physical properties as alloy. Due to the elasticity of MIM, it will not bring into any restriction to manufacturing complex products. Fine metal powder and high temperature sintering make final products produced by MIM achieve high density. This also makes MIM products have similar features with precision materials.

  • Is metal melted in the process of forming?

No, the only thing that melted during the process is binder, it therefore makes powder flow freely like plastic material. Parts get certain strength by cooling the binder. After sintering, parts can have high density, which is enough to meet the demand of mechanical properties.

  • How to operate MIM?

Raw material is a mixture of fine metal powder and binder. When heat raw material, it will change to thickened and pulpy mixture, then to be injected into molds and form models. After cooling, we get it out from molds and reprocess to remove binder (called degreasing). Lastly, we put it under manipulated high temperature, metal powder is melted and formed tight solid.

  • What is MIM Technology?

MIM is a technology combining injection molding and powder metallurgy.

  • Why do you use MIM?

MIM has the advantage in manufacturing fine and highly complex parts. These parts are difficult to use traditional machining or casting technology because of the high costs.

  • What materials can be applied to MIM?

Most of the metal alloys are available in the MIM process. Typical alloy includes high strength steel, nickel and stainless steel and super alloy. Other materials covers refractory alloy, titanium and copper alloy. Low melting point alloy refers to brass, bronze, aluminum and zinc, but these are not applicable to MIM considering cost. If wanna know more, you can look over the table of material selection.

  • What is the best way to realize the benefits of MIM?

In the early stage of design, the application of MIM technology is the best to realize MIM benefit. GianMIM will assist you in the application of MIM technology, whether the existing traditional or new metal forming products.

  • Delivery cycle?

Usually, the delivery cycle of processing and submitting sample is 4-8 weeks. But according to particular requirement, we are able to relevantly shorten the delivery cycle.

  • How is the annual demand?

In general, the average annual demand should be above 50K, but GianMIM will also consider a healthy annual demand on behalf of customers.

  • Is there any restrictions?

Like any other technology, MIM technology also has some limitations. Usually, maximum weight limit is 240 grams (from economic perspective, in general, weight will be limited to no more than 50 grams). Some geometric properties will result in certain issues (ultra thick and thin section). GianMIM will recommend the best design to you.

  • How about the tolerance?

Typical MIM tolerance is between 0.3% and 0.5%. However, mostly tolerance depends on the geometric characteristics of products. Machining can achieve the tolerance which is beyond MIM technology. GianMIM will help you analyze and provide comprehensive advices to meet your demand.

  • What equipment will be used in process?

GianMIM uses advanced device equipped with the latest controller to ensure produce progressive output. GianMIM establishes strategic partnership with equipment suppliers from many European countries. We customize equipment with special performances in a large volume.

  • Can MIM be treated in heat or be gold plated?

MIM parts can be treated with heat, gold plating, processing and forging, which like traditional machining products. GianMIM has own heat treatment and plating equipment so that we are able to provide complete finished components.
